Heart Beat (心跳) - Album by Wang Lee Hom

Heart Beat (心跳) is Wang Lee Hom's latest album which was released in December 2008. In this album, Lee Hom continues his rock-style that began from his previous album, Change Me (改變自己). This was shown in his release of his song "What's Up Rock!!" (搖滾怎麼了!!), as debuted on radio in September of 2008. This song shows a fusion of his "chinked-out" style with the genre of rock involved as well. With the release of the song, Lee Hom eventually announced his MUSIC-MAN World Tour, which kicked off in Taipei a few weeks after the debut of "What's Wrong With Rock!!" In his concert, he debuted three new songs: "Dirty Love" (愛得得體) ,"No Reason to Pay Attention to You" (我完全沒有任何理由理你) and "Everything". However, the title track of the album, "Heartbeat" (心跳) was not introduced until December 8th, when the song was released on the radio.

Track listing
  1. 愛得 得體 Dirty Love (3:48)
  2. 心跳 Heartbeat (4:23)
  3. 春雨裡洗過的太陽 The Sun After Washed by Spring Rain (4:51)
  4. Everything (4:59)
  5. 我完全沒有任何理由理你 No Reason to Pay Attention to You (3:07)
  6. 另一個天堂 Another Heaven (4:26) (featuring Jane Zhang)
  7. 玩偶 Puppet (2:57)
  8. 腳本 Screenplay (4:12)
  9. 競爭對手 Competitor (4:05)
  10. 搖滾怎麼了!! What's Wrong With Rock!! (2:35)
When I first see it on CD store, I'm really excited so I bought it straight away. Several songs in this Heart Beat album is really great and I like them very much. but there are few songs that I don't really like. But for the credit. Wang Lee Hom wrote all the songs himself, Really is a musical genius. So overall not the best album by Lee Hom, but still a nice album to have.
Here are some reviews of the songs :

1. 愛得 得體 Dirty Love
I’ve got to admit that usually Lee Hom picks better first tracks than this. Its not horrible, its just…not my type of music. I’m more of a ballad and RnB type. But after several times being played, this song is not that bad afterall.

2. 心跳 Heart Beat

This was the first song I heard on the radio from this album. When I first listen to this song, it's just a usual ballad song. But now I think it's such a great song. Lee Hom penned the lyrics, composed it, arranged it, produced it, and personally played all the instruments you can hear in the song. One of my favorite song in this album.

3. 春雨裡洗過的太陽 The Sun After Washed by Spring Rain

This one is also one of my favorite song in this Heart Beat album. The melody is really relaxing. It kinda reminds me of that classic oldie "Rhythm of the rain" The whistling at the beginning gives the song a really nice touch too. Something that you can chill to on a hot summer day with a glass of really cold drink.

4. Everything

This is my favorite song in this album. Kinda like "Forever Love", "Kiss Goodbye", "Wei yi". You know, the typical, awesome Lee Hom sad ballads. The song is so nice, the lyrics are beautiful : "you’re my everything, the one reason that helps me face this world with courage; want to give you everything, doesn’t matter how many days it will take, forever starts now" His voice is so great too in this song. Such a great song.

5. 我完全沒有任何理由理你 No Reason to Pay Attention to You
I Don't really like this song. This song is just weird. The tunes are off and the music is not for my ears too. But that's my personal opinion. The lyric is funny though.

6. 另一個天堂 Another Heaven ft Jane Zhang
This one is another one of my favorite song in this album. Such a beautiful duet. Lee Hom's voice and Jane's voice are a perfect match. I can't help to listen it again and again. Its the type of songs that will grow on you after awhile.

7. 玩偶 Puppet
Very upbeat and jumpy jumpy. Great song for festive seasons. Makes me bop my legs up and down and sing. I also hear traces of Lee Hom’s famous chinked out sounds. A very fun song! It’ll be heaps fun when he performs it at one of his concerts.

8. 腳本 Screenplay
This song is good, the instrumental is nice, but not the song you'll get mad into. Just an "OK" song I think

9. 競爭對手 Competitor
This song kinda gives off an RnB vibe. Not the typical RnB, but its still so much love. Really catchy. a really nice RnB song.

10. 搖滾怎麼了!! What's Wrong With Rock!!
This is not the one I like too from this Heart Beat album. But Lee Hom personally composed this and penned the lyrics, so he deserves some credit.

(Jason)
Do you hear me, I’m talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I’m trying

(Colbie)
Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard

(Both)
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Ooohh, ooooh, oooh, oooh,
Oooh ooh ooh ooh

(Both)
They don’t know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I’ll wait for you I promise you, I will

(Both)
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we’re in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

(Jason)
And so I’m sailing through the sea
To an island where we’ll meet
You’ll hear the music fill the air
I’ll put a flower in your hair

(Colbie)
Though the breezes through trees
Move so pretty you’re all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

(Both)
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I’m lucky we’re in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

Ooohh, ooooh, oooh, oooh,
Oooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooooh, ooooh, oooh, oooh,
Oooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.

I'm Yours Lyric by Jason Mraz

This "I'm Yours" song by Jason Mraz is one of my favorite songs. The singer Jason Mraz is a very very talented singer i think. Many of his songs become hits soon after his album called "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things" was out. This song "I'm Yours" is one of the best song in this album. You can find mp3 download link here, and below is the lyric.

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
Now I'm trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I'll be giving it my best test
And nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment babay sing with me
We're just one big family
And It's our God-forsaken right to be loved love loved love loved

So I won't hesitate no more, not yours
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

Scooch on over closer dear
And i will nibble your ear

I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what I'm be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours
Please don't, please don't, please don't
There's no need to complicate
Cause our time is short
This oh this this is out fate, I'm yours!

说好的 幸福呢
Shuo hao de xing fu ne

Your response is lost in confusion. At this moment
I recall a dove in a room with a fountain. The sweetness has dispersed.
It’s only dragged-out emotion. Do I still love you?
Accompanying you singing songs. Pretending it doesn’t matter.

Time passed, it’s gone. Our love is faced with a choice.
You’ve grown cold and tire cold and tired, I’ve cried.
Unhappiness from the beginning. You have written down on a card.
When love comes to this, It truly hurts.

What happened? You’ve grown tired. What about the happiness we promised each other?
I understand it. Dont' say anymore. Love has become tasteless. My dreams have gone far away.
Happy and unhappy moment, narrating them one after another. You can't bear it anymore.
The feelings of loving you are too deep. I still remember them.
You didn’t wait anymore. What about the happiness we promised each other?
I’ve made a mistake, tears have dried, let go, and regretted it.
It only hold memories, but the music box is still playing.
How’s it supposed to stop?

Repeat All

Raising my head to gaze at the boundless grey clouds, That season is called "loneliness."
My sack is stuffed with household tools, Thus begins my journey.
During the day, I cannot feel the warmth of the sun,
During the night, I cannot see the bluish moonlight.
I had no choice but to choose the beginning of frigidity.
Staying would only fill me with regrets.

The arrangements of fate, Stems from nature's logic
No one is able to discover the key to the puzzle.

Leaving my homeland without excessive sighs,
With all the dreams melting into the autumn night.
And I seems like the falling leaves returning to their roots, hanging heavily in your heart.
No matter how much the resultant worries or loneliness, I am willing to bear them all.
My love is like the falling leaves returning to their roots, Home is when I am at your side.

(D.C al Fine)

I hope to accompany you in seeking to regain, The lost Eternity.
When I started to speak, however, you kept quiet.
All that remains is but a dream.

Maria Ozawa a.k.a Miyabi (小澤マリア)

Birthdate : January 8, 1986

Blood type : A
Breasts : 88 cm (35 in)
Cup : E
Waist : 58 cm (23 in)
Hips : 86 cm (34 in)

Special skill : English language

Her mother is Japanese and her father is French-Canadian, which gives her a look that has been described as "a perfect balance of Japanese beauty mixed with a dash of exoticism". Since she attended an international school from Primary School to High School, she claims that her English reading and writing ability is better than her Japanese. While at school, she played hockey every day, and often went to karaoke after class. Ozawa had her first sexual experience at the age of 13, and learned the "48 sexual positions" through a book that she bought herself.

AV Debut
She started modeling for the site shirouto-teien.com, which resulted in several sets of photographs and two hardcore gonzo videos. She was then signed by the S1 AV company, premiering for them in October of 2005 with the video ‘New Face’. S1 has subsequently released one original Ozawa video per month. She has also been featured in several S1 compilation videos including the company’s entry in the 2006 AV Open, a competition between Japanese pornographic studios whose aim is to see which studio can produce the highest selling video. The compilation video featuring Maria Ozawa, among others, won first place. She has done several photo-books and glamour ("graveur") videos that feature her in the nude, but not performing sexual acts.
Visit Maria Ozawa's Photo Gallery Uncensored here

Other Performance
Besides adult videos, she has appeared in V-Cinema films, a photobook and several glamour ("gravure") videos. In 2007, she played the character Anita (アニータ) on the popular Japanese TV drama Tokumei Kakarichō Tadano Hitoshi (特命係長・只野仁) on TV Asahi. In addition, Ozawa was on a 2007 episode of the Japanese variety show Megami no hatena ("The Goddess of What Is That") on Nihon TV as part of a series with AV actresses telling why they went into AV work. She has also appeared on Japanese MTV with the hip hop artist SEAMO, who is also a fan, and in the 2007 music video Summer Time in the D.S.C. with the Yokohama hip hop group DS455.

Ozawa could be seen in 2007 performing twice at the Shinjuku striptease bar "Shinjuku New Art". She took dance lessons to prepare but was still very nervous. She danced in a variety of outfits including appearing as a belly-dancer, a geisha and a cowgirl. Three videos were released of her performance and a behind-the-scenes interview.

She followed up on her Shinjuku experience by starring in a cabaret show in Macao. The show, called "Tokyo Nights", ran at the Rockza night club in the Grand Lisboa Hotel from August 16 to September 6, 2008 and featured Ozawa and several other Japanese performers. The shows received mixed reviews. Promotional materials show her with a (temporary) tattoo.

In 2008, Ozawa acted in her first mainstream movie, Invitation Only, billed as "Taiwan's First-Ever Slasher Horror". The film is produced by Three Dots Entertainment in Taipei, Taiwan and co-stars Julianne Chu. Ozawa plays a supermodel and has dialog in English and Japanese. Her professionalism impressed her co-workers and her role was expanded to include further scenes. The film was released in Taiwan in August 2008.

Personal Life
Her hobbies include cooking and watching AVs on her flatscreen television set. She also enjoys playing video games, and owns a pink Nintendo DS Lite, and a pink PlayStation 2 console. Ozawa has been fairly open about her private life granting several interviews and keeping a very detailed text and picture blog of her life and activities dating back to October 2005.

During a 2007 interview, Ozawa reported that her interest in the AV industry remains high, and her video cabinet contains nothing but AVs. She makes a good living from the industry, living in a mansion (a high-class apartment) with a US$1,682-per-month rent, and earning a minimum of $8,000 per month. However, while she says that she would quit the industry only if she is forced to do something else, she would try to prevent a friend from beginning work in the AV industry. Ozawa's family and friends are against her chosen profession in spite of her apparent pride in her work. When she brought several of her videos home to show her parents, they refused to watch them and told her to get out.

In mid-2008, it was reported in the Japanese tabloid newspapers Shūkan Bunshun and Tokyo Sports that Ozawa was dating J-pop star Koki Tanaka from the group KAT-TUN. According to the reports, Ozawa neither confirmed or denied the rumours, saying only "If I’m dating someone I will stay devoted to him! I have a rule against sex friends. It’s not a good thing, plus having one boyfriend is enough".

Early Life
Alexander Lee-Hom Wang was born in Rochester, New York, the second among 3 sons. At the age of six, Wang began to take violin lessons. He attended Jefferson Road Elementary School, Pittsford Middle School, then Pittsford Sutherland High School in the town of Pittsford. Wang graduated from Pittsford Sutherland with high honors.

Wang chose to attend Williams College, where he graduated with honors, double majoring in music and Asian Studies.W hile in college he sang with the Springstreeters, an all-male a cappella group. He continued his studies by attending Berklee College of Music's Professional Music program, with voice as his principal instrument.

Music Career
In 1995, he was signed to a professional recording contract while visiting his grandparents in Taiwan. Since then, Wang has become one of the new songwriters and musicians revolutionizing the Chinese-language music industry. He is active in all areas of music production, from composing to producing, to music arrangement, to lyric writing, to directing his own music videos.

Although he did not begin learning Mandarin until he was 18, Wang is now fluent in the language (including reading and writing) and has written most of the lyrics for his songs. Wang plays over 10 musical instruments. In his albums and live concerts, Wang can be heard playing piano, drums, guitar, bass, violin, vibraphone, erhu, xun, and more.
A classically trained music background enables Wang to pull from a variety of musical styles and continuously reinvent his own sound that is distinctly Chinese and western at the same time. For example, his 2005 release, Shangri-La drew heavily from R&B, dance pop, and the musics of Chinese ethnic minorities from Tibet, Mongolia, and Yunnan.
Having established himself as one of the most important, influential, and prolific artists in Chinese music, never repeating himself, Wang continued to invent and experiment with new sounds and voices.

His ninth album, Unbelievable marked a milestone in his career. Not only did the album heavily stress mainstream R&B and Hip Hop, it also sold more than 1.3 million copies in Asia and won him Best Producer of the Year again for the 15th Golden Melody Awards in 2004. The lead single of the album, "You're Not Here" (Chinese: 你不在; pinyin: nǐ bù zài) was ranked #1 in several music charts and stayed there for well over 10 weeks. Before the release of Unbelievable, Wang began his first world concert tour titled "Unbelievable". The concert tour received rave reviews from fans and critiques in all regions in Asia.

In his tenth album Shangri-La, released on the last day of 2004, Wang incorporated the often unheard music of Chinese aboriginal music into mainstream hip hop and coined this style "chinked-out". He experimented with the tribal sounds of China, Tibet, and Mongolia, traveled to remote villages, carrying 15 kg of equipment while fighting bouts of altitude and food sickness. Despite the derogatory nature of the term "chink," Wang had wanted to repossess the term and "make it cool." Within ten days of its release, Shangri-La sold past an outstanding 40,000 copies, an excellent start as the first album to be sold in Taiwan of 2005. Within a month, the album sold over 300,000 copies.

Continuing the "chinked-out spirit" by infusing elements of Beijing opera and Kunqu into the songs, Heroes of Earth was released on December 30, 2005. Heroes of Earth was his eleventh album. He collaborated with American rapper Jin and Korean artists Rain and Lim Jeong Hee and again won himself Best Male Vocalist in the 17th Golden Melody Awards in 2006. Heroes of Earth impressively broke the record of selling more than 1 million copies ten days after its release. The album stayed at first place in the G-Music Charts for 6 weeks. Ultimately, the album stayed in the charts for a total of 23 weeks and became third for the most sold album in Taiwan of 2006.

2007: Change Me
In the summer of 2007, Wang released his much anticipated 12th album, Change Me. The album was released on Friday, July 13, disregarding the superstition generally attached to Friday the 13th. Through this album, Leehom promotes the issue of global warming and social awareness. The packaging of the CD uses recycled paper and contains no plastic. Wang believes that little changes in each person can affect the world. The CD also came with a pair of reusable metal chopsticks in a pouch. This is also to promote environmental awareness.

Wang's first promotional single album for the new album, "Falling Leaf Returns to Roots" (traditional Chinese: 落葉歸根; pinyin: luòyè guī gēn) gave its world premiere at Hito Radio on June 20, 2007. The music style is very different from Wang's previous singles. Wang had said that the inspiration behind the song was due to the influence of his portrayal of Kuang Yumin in the film Lust, Caution. The song accompanies melodic violin and piano solos. In addition, Leehom collaborated with Selina Ren, a member of the famous Taiwan girl group S.H.E in "You're a song in my heart" (Chinese: 你是我心内的一首歌; pinyin: nǐ shì wǒ xīn nèi de yī shǒu gē). For this song, Wang sings a few lines in Taiwanese, which was a bit of a challenge for him because of he is not fluent in Taiwanese. Wang learned some Taiwanese in order to help deal with this challenge

In August 2008, Wang sought US$320,000 in damages for plagiarism by Pritam, an Indian composer. The lead song for the movie Race, composed by Pritam, was allegedly copied from "Deep Within the Bamboo Grove" (traditional Chinese: 竹林深處; pinyin: zhú lín shēnchù).
Wang was announced as conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's 2008 annual grand finale for four concerts over three days. He was the first Asian pop musician ever to conduct the orchestra.

2008: Heart Beat
In December 2008, Wang released the album Heart Beat (traditional Chinese: 心.跳; pinyin: xīn tìao). This album includes a track with Jane Zhang, a Mandarin artist who is high on the list of collaboration partners for male artists. He demonstrates a new style with the album's main focus going on the electric guitar, as he uses it for the majority of his tracks, and the album in general focuses more on the rock genre than his previous albums.

Acting Career
Lee Hom made his acting debut in 2000 with “China Strike Force”, starring alongside Hong Kong star Aaron Kwok and Japanese actress Norika Fujiwara. Lee Hom took the leading role in “The Avenging Fist” the following year. Both movies had achieved decent box office success, but LeeHom’s acting was not highly rated.
LeeHom starred in another 2 Japanese movies, “Moon Child” (2002) and “Starlit High Noon” (2005) before surprisingly landed a role in “Lust, Caution”, directed by Oscar winning director Ang Lee; the film was released in September 2007).

April Fools' Day

April Fools' Day or also known as All Fools' Day, although not a holiday in its own right, is a day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on a fool's errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible (weird tradition isn't it ?)Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: like UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool". Elsewhere, such as in Ireland, France, and the USA, the jokes last all day.

Any how the quest of origin and the date from which the day is being celebrated is still haunting to many today. The origin of April Fools' Day is obscure. One likely theory is that the modern holiday was first celebrated soon after the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar; the term referred to someone still adhering to the Julian Calendar which it replaced. In many pre-Christian cultures May Day (May 1) was celebrated as the first day of summer, and signalled the start of the spring planting season. An April Fool was someone who did this prematurely.

April Fool’s Day has all the characteristics of a renewal festival. For one day forms of behavior that are normally not allowed (lying, deception, and playing pranks) become acceptable, and yet the disorder is bounded within a strict timeframe. Traditionally, no pranks are supposed to be played after 12 o’clock noon of the first. Social hierarchies and tensions are exposed, but hostility is defused with laughter.

For as long as people have been speculating about April Fool’s Day, they have noticed the similarities between it and other springtime “renewal” festivals. Many historians have theorized that April Fool’s Day evolved directly out of some such festival practiced in ancient times. A direct connection between April Fool’s Day and any of the Roman-era festivals seems unlikely, though it is quite possible that the tradition evolved out of a medieval festival held around the time of the Vernal equinox (such as the New Year’s festivals at the end of March, as discussed above). Nevertheless, there is no agreement about which festival the tradition of April Foolery developed out of. Below is a list of some of the festivals that have most frequently been suggested as its forerunners.

The most popular theory about the origin of April fool’s Day involves the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century. The theory goes like this :
  • French calendar reform
In 1564 France reformed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to January 1. Those who failed to keep up with the change, who stubbornly clung to the old calendar system and continued to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25th and April 1st, had jokes played on them. Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were thus called Poisson d’Avril, or April Fish—which, to this day, remains the French term for April Fools—and so the tradition was born.
The calendar-change hypothesis seems, on the surface, like a logical explanation for the origin of April Fools. However, the hypothesis becomes less plausible if we examine the history of calendar reform in more detail.
  • The Julian calendar
The Julian Calendar, established by Julius Caesar in 46 BC, made January 1 the first day of the year. But as Christianity spread throughout Europe, efforts were made to christianize the calendar by moving New Year’s Day to dates of greater theological significance, such as Christmas or Easter. Some countries continued to use January 1, justifying this as the date of Christ’s circumcision. As a consequence, by the 1500s the European calendar system was a mess. Not only had errors in the Julian calendar caused the solar year to diverge from the calendar year, but also countries were beginning the year on different dates.
Moreover, the French used Easter as the start of the year primarily for legal and administrative purposes. January 1, following the Roman custom, was widely regarded as the traditional start of the year, and it was the day when people exchanged gifts.
  • Sixteenth-Century Reform
The practice of starting the year on Easter Day caused enormous practical inconvenience, so around 1500 many people in France began to use January 1 as the start of the calendar year. For instance, in early sixteenth-century French books, it is common to see both forms of dating listed side-by-side (for titles published in January, February, or March). By the mid-sixteenth century, a calendar system beginning on January 1 was in wide use in France. In 1563 King Charles IX decreed January 1 to be the first day of the year, thus aligning legal convention with what had become the popular practice. His edict was passed into law by the French Parliament on Dec. 22, 1564.
Eighteen years later, in 1582, Pope Gregory issued a papal bull decreeing sweeping calendar reform. The Gregorian reform included moving the start of the year to January 1, as well as creating a leap-year system and eliminating ten days from the month of October 1582 in order to correct the drift of the calendar. The Pope had no formal power to make governments accept this reform, but he urged Christian nations to do so. France immediately accepted the reform, although it had already changed the start of the year in 1564. (Many histories of April Fool’s Day mistakenly suggest that France only moved the start of the year in 1582 when it accepted the Gregorian calendar reform in its entirety.)
With this history in mind, it becomes clear that the calendar-change hypothesis is a problematic explanation for the origin of April Fool’s Day. The switch to January 1 did not occur suddenly in France. It was a gradual process, spanning an entire century. And even before the switch, the French New Year had no obvious connection to April 1st.
At last, what we have here is a fairly clear reference to a custom of playing practical jokes on April 1st. So we can say that April Fool’s Day dates back at least to the sixteenth century. Because of this reference (and the other, vague French reference), historians believe that April Fool’s Day must have originated in continental northern Europe and then spread to Britain.

The April Fools is full of hoaxes, humor, laughter and enjoyment. The frequency of April Fools' hoaxes sometimes makes people doubt of real news. Here are some of the real news of april 1st which people took as hoaxes :
  • The 1946 April Fools' Day tsunami in Hilo, Hawaii. The April 1, 1946 Aleutian Island earthquake tsunami that killed 165 people in Hawaii and Alaska resulted in the creation of a tsunami warning system (specifically the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre), established in 1949 for Pacific Ocean countries. The tsunami in question is known in Hawaii as the "April Fools' Day Tsunami" due to people drowning because of the assumptions that the warnings were an April Fools' prank.
  • The death of King George II of Greece on April 1, 1947.
  • The AMC Gremlin was first introduced on April 1, 1970.
  • On April 1, 1984, singer Marvin Gaye was shot and killed by his father. Originally, people assumed that it was a fake news story, especially considering the bizarre aspect of the father being the murderer.
  • On April 1, 1993, NASCAR Winston Cup Series Champion Alan Kulwicki was killed in a plane crash involving Hooters of America executives in Blountville, Tennessee near the Tri-Cities Airport. The party was traveling to the Food City 500 qualifying scheduled for the next day.
  • The merger of Square and its rival company, Enix, took place on April 1, 2003, and was originally thought to be a joke.
  • Leslie Cheung, one of Hong Kong's well-known singer and actor, committed suicide in 2003 due to severe depression.
  • Gmail's April 2004 launch was widely believed to be a prank, as Google traditionally perpetrates April Fools' Day hoaxes each April 1 (see Google's hoaxes.) Another Google-related event that turned out not to be a hoax occurred on April 1, 2007, when employees at Google's New York City office were alerted that a ball python kept in an engineer's cubicle had escaped and was on the loose. An internal e-mail acknowledged that "the timing…could not be more awkward" but that the snake's escape was in fact an actual occurrence and not a prank.
  • The 2005 death of comedian Mitch Hedberg was originally dismissed as an April Fools' joke. The comedian's March 29, 2005 death was announced on March 31, but many newspapers didn't carry the story until April 1, 2005.
  • On April 1, 2008, it was reported that UEFA would require the Swedish fast food chain Max to close their restaurant at the Borås Arena during the European Under-21 Football Championship due to a conflict with official sponsor McDonalds and a requirement that only official sponsors may operate around the arena. The arena was later replaced as a tournament site.
  • On April 1, 2008, Christian Persch announced that the GNOME desktop web browser Epiphany would be switched from Mozilla's Gecko engine to the WebKit engine used by Safari and KDE's equivalent application Konqueror
  • On 1 April 2009, Alan Shearer becomes caretaker manager of Newcastle United.
Also on April 1st, 2009, CBS announced the cancelation of the daytime drama Guiding Light after 57 years with the final episode scheduled to air September 18, 2009.
If you're looking to really have a good laugh this year, you will definitely know what to do after you've read this. Because, what I'm going to do is share with you some great April Fools day pranks. That way, you'll be able get a good laugh this year pranking people.
The April Fools day pranks that you can do are :
  1. The first thing you can do is give someone a fake scratch off lotto ticket. Regardless if the person plays the lotto or not, this will be the perfect prank. To pull it off, all you need is a fake lotto ticket. Make up an excuse as to why you're giving it to them.
After they scratch off the lotto ticket, it'll reveal that they've won $25,000. The expression on their face will be priceless.
  2. Another one of the best April Fools day pranks you can pull is to use a fart spray. You can use this at work, in a class, or anywhere. Or if you really want to get someone on April Fools day, you can spray their clothing with it. They'll stink all day long.

Red Cliff ( 赤壁 ) Movie Review

Red Cliff (赤壁 pinyin: Chìbì), also known as The Battle of Red Cliff, is a Chinese epic war film based on the Battle of Red Cliffs and events during the end of the Han Dynasty and immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. Within Asia, Red Cliff was released in two parts, totaling over four hours in length. The first part was released in July 2008 and the second in January 2009.
The film was directed by John Woo, and stars Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei. With an estimated budget of US$80 million, Red Cliff is the most expensive Asian-financed film. The first part of the movie alone grossed out $124 million in Asia, and broke the box office record previously held by Titanic in mainland China.
The First Part
The first part of this story is rather boring to me. It began in the summer of AD 208 during the Eastern Han Dynasty, the imperial army led by Chancellor (or Prime Minister) Cao Cao embarks on a campaign to eliminate the southern warlords Sun Quan and Liu Bei in the name of eliminating rebels, with the reluctant approval of the Emperor. Cao Cao's mighty army swiftly conquers the southern province of Jingzhou and the Battle of Changban is ignited when Cao Cao's calvary unit starts attacking the civilians who are on an exodus led by Liu Bei. During the battle, Liu Bei's followers, including his sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, give an excellent display of their legendary combat skills by managing to hold off the enemy while buying time for the civilians to retreat. The warrior Zhao Yun fights bravely to rescue his lord Liu Bei's entrapped family but only succeeded in rescuing Liu's infant son.
Following the battle, Liu Bei's chief advisor Zhuge Liang sets forth on a diplomatic mission to Eastern Wu to form an alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan to deal with Cao Cao's invasion. Sun Quan was initially in the midst of a dilemma of whether to surrender to resist, but his decision to resist Cao Cao hardens after Zhuge Liang's clever persuasion and a subsequent tiger hunt with his Grand Viceroy Zhou Yu and his sister Sun Shangxiang. Meanwhile, naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun from Jingzhou pledge allegiance to Cao Cao and were received warmly by Cao, who placed them in command of his navy.
After the hasty formation of the alliance, the forces of Liu Bei and Sun Quan call for a meeting to formulate a plan to counter Cao Cao's army, which is advancing slowly towards Red Cliff at godspeed from both land and water. The battle then begins with Sun Shangxiang leading a light calvary unit to lure Cao Cao's vanguard army into the Eight Trigrams Formation laid down by the allied forces. Cao Cao's vanguard army is utterly defeated by the allies but Cao Cao shows no disappointment and proceeds to lead his main army to the riverbank directly opposite the allies' main camp where they laid camp. While the allies throw a banquet to celebrate their victory, Zhuge Liang thinks of a plan to send Sun Shangxiang to infiltrate Cao Cao's camp and serve as a spy for them. The duo maintain contact by sending messages via a pigeon. The film ends with Zhou Yu lighting his miniaturised battleships on a map based on the battle formation, signifying his plans for defeating Cao Cao's navy. That's the end of first part. Here comes the exciting part of the story.
Second Part
Sun Shangxiang has infiltrated Cao Cao's camp and she has been secretly noting details and sending them via a pigeon to Zhuge Liang. Meanwhile, Cao Cao's army is seized with a plague of typhoid fever which kills a number of his troops. Cao Cao cunningly orders the corpses to be sent to the allies' camp, hoping to pass the plague on to his enemies. The allied army's morale is affected when some unsuspecting soldiers let the plague in, and eventually a disheartened Liu Bei leaves with his forces while Zhuge Liang stays behind to assist the Eastern Wu forces. Cao Cao hears that the alliance had collapsed and is overjoyed. At the same time, his naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun propose a new tactic of interlocking the battleships together with iron beams to minimize rocking when sailing on the river and reduce the chances of the troops falling seasick.

The Eastern Wu forces look on as Liu Bei leaves the alliance. From front to back: Zhou Yu (Tony Leung), Sun Quan (Chang Chen), Lu Su (Hou Yong). Subsequently, Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang make plans on how to eliminate Cao Cao's naval commanders Cai Mao and Zhang Yun, and produce 100,000 arrows respectively. They agreed that whoever fails to complete his mission will be punished by execution under military law. Zhuge Liang's ingenious strategy of borrowing of arrows with straw boats brought in over 100,000 arrows from the enemy and aroused Cao Cao's suspicions about the loyalty of Cai and Zhang towards him. (This part of the movie is the best part I think). On the other hand, Cao Cao sends Jiang Gan to persuade Zhou Yu to surrender, but Zhou Yu tricks Jiang Gan instead, into believing that Cai Mao and Zhang Yun are planning to assassinate their lord Cao Cao. Both Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu's respective plans complement each other when Cao Cao is convinced, despite earlier having doubts about Jiang Gan's report, that Cai and Zhang were indeed planning to assassinate him by deliberately 'donating' arrows to the enemy. Cai and Zhang are executed and Cao Cao realised his folly afterwards but it was too late.

In the Eastern Wu camp, Sun Shangxiang returns from Cao Cao's camp with a map of the enemy formation. Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang decide to attack Cao Cao's navy with fire after knowing that there is a special climatic condition known only to Eastern Wu's forces, that the South-East Wind (to their advantage) would blow sometime soon. As the Eastern Wu forces made preparations for the fire attack, Huang Gai proposes to Zhou Yu the Self-Torture Ruse to increase their chances of success, but Zhou Yu does not heed it. Before the battle, the forces of Eastern Wu have a final moment together, feasting on glutinous rice balls to celebrate the Winter Festival. Meanwhile, Zhou Yu's wife Xiao Qiao heads towards Cao Cao's camp alone secretly, in hope of persuading Cao Cao to give up his ambitious plans but she fails and decides to distract him instead to buy time for the Eastern Wu forces.

The battle begins when the South-East Wind starts blowing in the middle of the night and the Eastern Wu forces launch their full-scale attack on Cao Cao's navy. On the other hand, Liu Bei's forces, which had apparently left the alliance, start attacking Cao Cao's forts on land. By dawn, Cao Cao's entire navy has been destroyed. The allied forces launch another offensive on Cao Cao's ground army, stationed in his forts, and succeeded in breaking through using testudo formation despite suffering heavy casualties. Although Cao Cao is besieged in his main camp, he manages to holds Zhou Yu hostage after catching him off guard together with Cao Hong. Xiahou Jun appears as well holding Xiao Qiao hostage and causes the allied forces to hesitate. In the nick of time, Zhao Yun manages to reverse the situation by rescuing Xiao Qiao with a surprise attack and put Cao Cao at the mercy of the allied forces instead. Eventually, the allied forces decide to spare Cao Cao's life and tell him never to return before leaving for home. In the final scenes, Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang are seen having a final conversation before Zhuge Liang walks away into the far distance with the newborn foal Mengmeng.

My opinion is that it's a great movie. I'll give this movie a score of 8 out of 10. The story is good. Although it's rather different than the story in the book, but John Woo make the difference not significant. The most incredible part of the movie is the effect, especially when thousands of arrows were flying in the air, the sensation is so real. The cast is great too. All of the artist play his/her part well enough if it's not outstanding. You should watch this movie or buy the DVD.
